Lifechurch.tv = McDonalds

I recently ran across a flippant comment about lifechruch on a social networking site that got me really fired up, so much so that I responded.  Something I don’t normally do.

The basis of the comment was that lifechurch is a sanitized franchise version of the church.  ” I would like a McWorship Combo with a small side of spirituality ….oh and hold the doctrine…” quipped the person posting the comment.  Going on to say they could make a fortune by opening their own LC franchise.  In the end in some ways agreed with the person making the comment, from a perspective based in the truth of course. :)

See how I responded below.

Franchise, ok sure but why not. Just because Lifechurch uses proven corporate methods to reach as many people as possible does not mean that the truth is not being told. In fact Christ commands us to go and share the good news. Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20. and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Spirituality, a small side? Not quite. The mission of Lifechurch is to Lead people to be fully devoted followers of Christ. If you come to Lifechurch just to get a spiritual fix you will be challenged to sacrifice by serving, or to grow in your relationship with Christ. You can come a consume if you choose to, but not without ignoring calls to contribute.

Hold the Doctrine? yes please! Doctrine and theology are man’s attempt to put specific filters on the word of God. The problem with that is the word of God is alive. For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

The teaching pastors at LC base the messages on scripture ( a.k.a the living word of God ) not calvinism, arminianism or any other mechanism that attempts to “tidy up” the word of God.

Oh and what profit does Lifechurch reap? You decide. They give away almost all the materials they create. Hundreds non Lifechurch churches all over the world download and use the videos and documents created by LC for free. Think about that for a minute, churches around the globe don’t have to spend time or money on resources they need. Instead the can focus on the freedom that comes to people when they know Christ.

Just some FOOD for thought! :)

I say all these thing with the understanding the Lifechurch is not perfect or the church for everyone. What it’s not though is a shallow commercialized over promoted and empty version of the church.

Building a new house…

Gina and I are starting the process of building a new house.  Our biggest problem is finding a plan we like that we can afford to build, next comes a lot we like that we can afford to buy.  Land prices in Edmond are getting higher by the day it seems.  Forty to fifty thousand dollars for a standard city lot.  We are starting to consider Deer Creek as an option, land is cheaper, schools are good but it means more driving.  If you know of any good lots in Edmond that a developer would be willing to let us build on let us know.  Feel free to share your home building stories.
